THINGS TO DO IN OBERGURGL & ÖTZTAL
The Ötztal and the entire region offer a wide selection of first-class excursion destinations. From the impressive Alpine pass to the highest waterfall in Tyrol to a top-class thermal spa, the Ötztal has it all. The Hotel Wiesental is the ideal starting point for day trips to the north and south.
The "Secret Gateway to the South" is very close to Hotel Wiesental. It is one of the most famous mountain pass roads in the Alps. Expect breathtaking viewpoints, the finest alpine panoramas, crystal-clear streams and rustic inns. The Timmelsjoch Experience points provide fascinating cultural and historical insights. With over 60 curves, the road offers an unforgettable driving experience and is a must for convertible, motorcycle and road cycling enthusiasts. The street is open from June to late October.
Even for non-motorcycle fans, the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum at the Crosspoint is a true highlight. The museum houses 500 historic motorcycles from 150 manufacturers across 4,500 m². Additional attractions include a 4D cinema, a Motor Wall, an interactive media table with motorbike insights, and changing special exhibitions.
Located at over 3,000 metres on Sölder Gaislachkogl, 007 ELEMENTS is more than a museum. Built on top of a rocky mountain, this installation provides an extraordinary immersive experience. Film fans will recognise the stunning backdrop, as scenes from the James Bond movie Spectre were filmed here and at the adjacent Ice Q restaurant.
The AQUA DOME in Längenfeld is a real eye-catcher. Its three iconic outdoor bowls are filled with steaming hot water and framed by a striking alpine panorama. The spa centre features a sports pool, a river pool with a current channel, a fitness area, and a spacious sauna landscape. Children love the colourful water world, Noah’s Ark of the Alps.
Located in Längenfeld, this open-air museum showcases everyday objects from bygone times. The grounds feature 16 historical buildings that provide a glimpse into what rural life was like in this area in previous centuries.
This nature park centre in Längenfeld is dedicated to the plants, animals and habitats of the Ötztal. Through multimedia exhibits, visitors can learn about the rich biodiversity of the region.
In Umhausen, you can observe eagles, vultures, kites and other raptors up close at the Birds of Prey Park. The daily demonstrations feature graceful glides, daring dives and silent flights. Adjacent to the park is the Ötzi Village, an archaeological open-air museum offering a hands-on experience of life in the Neolithic Age.
Stuibenfall in Umhausen plunges 159 metres, making it Tyrol’s tallest waterfall. It is not only a stunning sight but also scientifically proven to have health benefits. Its refreshing mist improves lung function and positively affects the respiratory system.
The Tower Museum in Oetz focuses on artistic interpretations of the Ötztal and its mountains. Exhibits range from contemporary art and photography to Alpine landscape paintings and medieval artefacts.
Located at the entrance to the Ötztal valley, AREA 47 is Austria’s largest outdoor adventure park. Highlights include a climbing tower and a high-ropes course, a wake area with wakeboarding and water skiing, an indoor bike park, and a water area with slides, blobbing, and a diving tower.
